Weather Band Code of Conduct

Community Code of Conduct

To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some guidelines for participation. By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines.  In order to preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to moderate discussions, remove posts, close discussions, and suspend or terminate membership in this community at any time for anyone who, in our determination, violates these rules and guidelines. This includes content that moderators find inappropriate, whether prohibited by the code of conduct or not.

We are committed to providing a welcoming and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual identity and orientation, pregnancy status, marital status, national origin, ethnic origin, nationality, immigration status, language, personal appearance, religion or lack thereof, or political affiliation.

If you are being harassed by a member of our community, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the AMS Weather Band Community coordinator via the Contact Us link on this site.  Note that offending posts can immediately be put into moderation by clicking on the “Mark as Inappropriate” menu option, located to the right of every discussion post and library entry.

AMS Weather Band Community Rules and Etiquette

Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members.

Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. If you’ve found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in a respectful way.

Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.

Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator. When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.

Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate communities. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."

State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.

Job openings, requests for employment, and selling of goods or services are strictly prohibited (please see the Career Center instead).

Be careful in the words that you choose. Do not insult or put down other participants.  Harassment and other exclusionary behavior aren't acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Violent threats or language directed against another person.
  • Discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Posting sexually explicit or violent material, including overtly sexual aliases or other nicknames
  • Posting (or threatening to post) other people's personally identifying information ("doxing").
  • Personal insults, especially those using racist or sexist terms.
  • Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behavior.
  • Any harassment of others within or outside the community.
  • Spamming, trolling, flaming, baiting or other attention-stealing behavior is not allowed.

In short, all defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal behavior are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.

Lastly, do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, change your notification settings via your Community Profile.  Information on how to manage notifications and other settings may be found in the AMS Weather Band Community Quick Start Guide.
