The Board of Pre-College Education's duties include to promote pre-college education in science and mathematics, specifically through atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrological sciences; to promote the development of pedagogical and reference resources for educators; and to provide support to the AMS Education Program, including the Certified AMS Teacher (CAT) program. To review annually the Society’s programs in support of K-12 education and report to Council both the current status and recommendations for the future of these programs.
Our work requires tremendous coordination, commitment, and collaboration between tens of thousands of people, all of whom are dedicated to success. AMS has created a structure of volunteer support for this coordination and collaboration that includes six commissions overseeing 140+ boards and committees.
The information provided in this application will be provided to the various commissioners as they begin making appointments for the committees and boards of their commission. Please note that most appointments are made in the fall for terms that begin in January, so you may not hear anything for some time after submitting this form. Also note that great effort is put into maintaining balance on committees and boards in terms of sector, discipline, etc., so you may not be used on a specific committee or board immediately.
