Global Partners Committee

Starts: 01-01-2024
Ends: 01-15-2027
Location: Online Opportunity

Description:

The AMS Global Partners Program offers AMS members the opportunity to connect and interact on a volunteer basis with international professionals (“International Scholars”) in academia, government and other nonprofit organizations who are seeking assistance in the atmospheric and related sciences. The mission of this newly established program is to promote equity, goodwill, and service to the extended atmospheric and related sciences community for the benefit of society internationally, and the AMS umbrella provides authenticity and credibility to these efforts and goals. A Program Matching Coordinator assists in matching specific international requests for assistance with the relevant expertise and availability of interested AMS Member-Volunteers. Potential activities include, among others, help with curriculum development, mentoring of students and young professionals, research assistance, policy preparation, and engineering support. AMS members interested in providing pro bono assistance to International Scholars are encouraged to enroll as a volunteer in the Global Partners Program. AMS members are also encouraged to relay the availability of this opportunity to potentially interested International Scholars.

Our work requires tremendous coordination, commitment, and collaboration between tens of thousands of people, all of whom are dedicated to success.
AMS has created a structure of volunteer support for this coordination and collaboration that includes six commissions overseeing 140+ boards and committees.

The information provided in this application will be provided to the various commissioners as they begin making appointments for the committees and boards of their commission. Please note that most appointments are made in the fall for terms that begin in January, so you may not hear anything for some time after submitting this form. Also note that great effort is put into maintaining balance on committees and boards in terms of sector, discipline, etc., so you may not be used on a specific committee or board immediately.
