This committee will promote research on, education about and awareness of the increasingly important impacts that weather and climate have on national, international, and human security. The committee, in conjunction with the CWWCE and AMS staff, will provide appropriate venues to engage the membership on important topics related to the intersection of weather, climate and security, and to assist in developing recommendations as to the AMS’ role in information for decision-makers. The committee is also responsible for putting together the 1st Symposium on Environmental Security, which will be held in conjunction with the annual meeting in January.
The weather, water, and climate enterprise is incredibly important to society. Our work requires tremendous coordination, commitment, and collaboration between tens of thousands of people, all of whom are dedicated to success. AMS has created a structure of volunteer support for this coordination and collaboration that includes six commissions overseeing 140+ boards and committees.
The information provided in this application will be provided to the various commissioners as they begin making appointments for the committees and boards of their commission. Please note that most appointments are made in the fall for terms that begin in January, so you may not hear anything for some time after submitting this form. Also note that great effort is put into maintaining balance on committees and boards in terms of sector, discipline, etc., so you may not be used on a specific committee or board immediately.
