Description:

Volunteer Opportunity – AMS Board on Student Affairs

AMS is seeking student volunteers at all stages of their academic careers to serve on the newly created Board on Student Affairs (“SAB”).

Created in May 2022, this board serves to represent student members of the AMS, arrange and carry out student activities within the Society, provide an avenue to present student concerns and ideas to the Council, promote student membership within the AMS, and provide a pathway to continued membership in the AMS as students transition into the early career professional stage of their careers.

As this is a newly formed board, many volunteer roles exist including:

  • Board chair(s)

  • Committee chairs for the:

    • Student Conference Planning Committee (“SCPC”)

    • Specialty Meeting Events Committee

    • Student Professional Development Committee

    • Student Outreach and Engagement Committee

  • Committee members for the above committees

Volunteers may choose to serve for 1, 2, or 3 years, with terms running from January to January. Volunteers may continue to serve on the SAB after graduation. AMS is committed to including a broad segment of students that represent the diversity of institutions as well as individuals.

Experience Preferred:

Prior experience as an AMS volunteer preferred (ad-hoc, committee, or board member)

The weather, water, and climate enterprise is incredibly important to society. Our work requires tremendous coordination, commitment, and collaboration between tens of thousands of people, all of whom are dedicated to success.

The information provided in this application will be provided to the various commissioners as they begin making appointments for the committees and boards of their commission. Please note that most appointments are made in the fall for terms that begin in January. Also note that great effort is put into maintaining balance on committees and boards in terms of sector, discipline, etc., so you may not be used on a specific committee or board immediately.
