The primary goals of the AMS Board for Early Career Professionals are to serve as a resource for early career professionals and to engage early career professionals in AMS-related activities. One of our largest initiatives is the Early Career Conference, which takes place at the annual meeting each January. We plan and prepare for this conference for much of the year. We cover topics not traditionally covered at scientific conferences, such as work-life balance, mental health, leadership, and more, that can really prepare early career professionals for both work and life. We also try to tackle these topics throughout the year with webinars and by interacting with other early career professionals on social media. Lastly, we have the tremendous honor of leading the Early Career Award Selection Committee.
Our work requires tremendous coordination, commitment, and collaboration between tens of thousands of people, all of whom are dedicated to success. AMS has created a structure of volunteer support for this coordination and collaboration that includes six commissions overseeing 140+ boards and committees.
The BECP team meets once a month, typically on the first Wednesday of each month, with our smaller teams (Early Career Conference, Webinar, Social Media & Graphic Design, and Early Career Award) meeting more frequently as needed. We are looking for enthusiastic team players who are excited to share their ideas and time to further BECP initiatives. Please upload your resume/CV and one-page letter of interest here, or email them to

The information provided in this application will be provided to the various commissioners as they begin making appointments for the committees and boards of their commission. Please note that most appointments are made in the fall for terms that begin in January, so you may not hear anything for some time after submitting this form. Also note that great effort is put into maintaining balance on committees and boards in terms of sector, discipline, etc., so you may not be used on a specific committee or board immediately.
